In this great country, we profess that we are all created equal. Our nation's past has shown significant upward improvements in regard to the fair treatment of its citizens; however, some dissension is still inevitable. Arguably, equal rights are not acknowledged by all; we still have racists, sexists and fascists.

Race, gender, religious affiliation and other aspects aside, there are several very basic experiences that tie us all together as a unified people. Except for the socially inept, we all possess the same small idiosyncratic tendencies that we encounter on a daily basis.

At the WC, we have chosen 10 such commonalities that bring us together.

Speeding up when you're being followed on the sidewalk by someone too closely

It's a space issue. We all need a gap between us or we feel uncomfortable.

Forgetting something like your glasses on your head, pen behind your ear and remote control on your armchair - and finding them in such obvious places

Admit it - you've done it. Left your glasses on your head. Found your pen behind your ear. The best of us have taken 10 minutes to find the remote control we have left in clear sight.

Those formidable stair steps: tripping up them, down them, getting to the top or bottom of the case thinking there's an extra step but there isn't

Staircase miscalculations suck. We look like idiots as we search for that extra step or take a hard landing when we think an extra step is at the bottom of the staircase. Bottom line is, we all look like idiots together.

Talking to yourself, then having to cover it up by pretending to sing

We all feel like idiots if we've been talking to ourselves. Picture some of the greatest who have done this - Helga from "Hey Arnold," Doug from "Doug" and JD from "Scrubs." Whether you want to admit it or not, we all do a little self-reflection out loud from time to time.

Laughing at something you remember from before at an inappropriate time, like in class, on the bus or during a conference in a quiet room.

As your eyes glaze over and you imagine a more amusing time, sometimes your body follows suit, and you leak out a chuckle.

Glancing at your watch and still not knowing what time it is; then someone asks you, and you still don't know

Why did you look at your watch? To look important because you have one?
