According to Hendrickson, Gibbs suffered a twisted ankle but is expected to return next week against North Dakota State.
Lunt performed well in the first half, completing nearly 70 percent of his passes but threw two interceptions. The Sycamores scored 10 points off Lunt's two turnovers.
He finished the game, completing 12-of-24 passes for 139 yards and three interceptions.
"Wil played well for being a freshman quarterback," Hendrickson said. "As we would look at it and even his teammates, we just have to have other players step up and make plays and not leave it up to our freshman quarterback."
Freshman kicker Brian Egan continues to struggle under pressure. Egan missed a crucial 35-yard field goal attempt that would have placed Western ahead 17-10 with 12:47 remaining in the contest.
Indiana State drove down field to score the game-winning touchdown on the following drive.
"We got outplayed by Indiana State," Hendrickson said. "They played very well. They deserved to win the game, and that's certainly what took place."
With the loss, Western has dropped six-straight contests and remains winless in conference play. The 'Necks will get to face another conference bottom-dweller in North Dakota State (1-7, 0-5) at home on Halloween weekend.

The blame for the football debacle rests with Athletic Director Tim Van Alstine. He was the one that allowed Coach Patterson to return last year (following cancer surgery & treatment) with 4 games left in the 2008 season. (Continued…)
