The Western Illinois women's soccer team (4-7-2, 1-2-1) hits the road this weekend for a pair of conference matches.
The first game is scheduled for tonight against Centenary (9-3-1, 1-2-1). The second game gets under way Sunday against Oral Roberts (5-8, 2-3).
The 'Necks' last two games didn't fare well for the team. They suffered a 2-1 loss against South Dakota State and a 2-1 loss against North Dakota State.
"We're playing good soccer, it's just unfortunate that we didn't score as many goals as we needed to," said head coach Tony Guinn. "We played two of the top three teams in the conference, and I think in the last 25 minutes against North Dakota State they couldn't get the ball across our half way line."
Guinn believes his team has played well but has not received any luck in its last couple matches.
"We played great, we played good soccer, we had the ball a lot," Guinn said. "We had a lot of opportunities to score. It's not that they're playing poorly by any means. We have been doing well. It's unfortunate that we haven't got some bounces to go our way."
The 'Necks are currently eighth in The Summit League standings after last weekend's play. They are led offensively by junior Jill Kevorkian, who has three goals and an assist on the season, while freshman Kellie Julius has three goals of her own.
"Three of the team's four wins this season have come on the road," Guinn said. "We are playing good.
I think our morale is good and our attitude is positive. We're going to keep it like that, I think we're going to have a good weekend."
Over the last four seasons, the 'Necks have had their way with Centenary and Oral Roberts, beating both teams in the last four meetings.
Last season, the 'Necks beat Centenary 4-0 and beat Oral Roberts 3-1. The 'Necks lead the all time series against Centenary 4-2 but trail against Oral Roberts 5-8.
"We're going to try and keep it optimistic and positive that things will go our way," Guinn said. "I think there's a good chance it could this weekend."
