History professor to hold book signing on Saturday

Western Illinois University History Professor Tim Roberts will sign copies of his recently published book, "Distant Revolutions: 1848 and the Challenge to American Exceptionalism," beginning at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 24 at New Copperfield's Book Service, 118 North Side Square, Macomb.
Roberts' book is a study of American politics, culture and foreign relations in the mid-19th Century illuminated through the reactions of Americans to the European revolutions of 1848. After the American military victory over Mexico, American's were scattered in their opinions of the revolution and its reform.
Roberts has taught Western's upper-division courses on 19th Century U.S. history and constitutional history and freshman survey courses on American history since joining the department in fall 2008. Roberts also serves as a mentor for undergraduate research projects on 19th Century America. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including two Andrew Mellon Foundation Research Fellowships, the 2006 Ralph D. Gray Best Article Prize from the Society of Historians of the Early American Republic and several Faculty Research Fellowships by Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.
