Volleyball earns road win

The Western Illinois volleyball team topped Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 3-0 on the road in nonconference action Monday night.
The Fighting Leathernecks (7-11, 3-4 Summit League) won in straight sets 25-18, 25-21 and 27-25 for the team's second win over the Cougars (1-17, 0-0 Ohio Valley) of the season.
The first set saw both teams battle back-and-forth until Western used a 5-0 late to run away with the set. SIU-E didn't go away easy in set two either, as the Cougars battled back from a five-point deficit to draw within two points before the Leathernecks ended the set.
Set three saw SIU-E hold set point at 25-24 before the Leathernecks rallied to end the match on a 3-0 run.
Sophomore middle hitter Cait Egar reached double-digit kills for the seventh time in eight matches with 13, and posted a hitting percentage of .429 (13k, 1e, 28ta) to lead the Leathernecks while freshman Katie Hosteng recorded 11 kills and hit for a .400 clip (11k, 3e, 20ta). Western only had two more kills on the night with a 40-38 advantage, but the 'Necks hit for a .236 percentage compared with SIU-E's .150.??
Also leading the Leathernecks, Ellen Miller had 31 assists while Bridget Murphy and Brooke Sittleburg both had 15 digs.?Western will be back in Summit League action this weekend as Western takes on IPFW Friday and Oakland Saturday.
