In my time with The Edge, I have made fun of my fair share of people, but I am usually not one to attack. But then there comes a person whom I am simply disgusted with: world famous director Mr. Roman Polanski, or as I call him Mr. Child Rapist.

I believe that good and bad can be weighed on an old-fashioned scale. On one side goes the good deeds, the other the bad. Creating quality cinema, such as old favorites like "Chinatown," which won numerous Academy Awards, gets the good side of the scale a solid gold star. Now on the other side, drugging and raping a 13-year-old girl breaks the scale and should put a bullet in between the offender's eyes.

However Mr. Child Rapist did not get his just desserts in 1977 when this all went down; instead he fled America to his home country of France. France, being known

for something other than being pompous wimps, is also well known for not extraditing their citizens to other countries.

For over 30 years, Mr. Child Rapist continued to make movies and even win more Academy Awards, as is the case with his 2002 film "The Pianist" (a close word to what he used to rape a 13-year-old girl, let's not forget.)

Call me old-fashioned, but if I were on the Academy, I would not give the award for Best Director to a man who gets his jollies off on girls who are still afraid of their period. Best Director/Evil Pervert I would give him, but just director? Let's save that one for someone who hadn't been on a decade long run for statutory rape.

The good news is that we have finally arrested him. Swiss authorities cooperated with the American government and he is finally behind bars. Nice detective work by all, seeing as how they caught him as he was on his way to win a lifetime achievement award.

Life's fair, isn't it? Confessed rapists get lifetime achievement awards. Pathetic.

Now here's where things start to really annoy me. People want him freed. I guess they figured a drugged rape victim will forget about it after a few decades. I mean, he made good movies, why not give him lifetime parole?

Even worse, according to ABC news, "Mr. Roman Polanski is being well treated. He thanks the many people who have shown support through the press and public opinion."

A college student gets caught with dope and he's a scumbag, a cretin makes a few good movies after raping a child, he's well-received.

I'm not sure which disgusts me more, his actions or the people in favor of letting him live a life where he doesn't have to worry about dropping the soap.

I know it's popular opinion that child rape is bad, and I'm not crossing a line by saying a rapist who has confessed should be behind bars, so I'm not getting why a soul would be on this pervert's side.

It's a good lesson for those convicted of statutory rape though. If you're going to ruin a little girl's life, try to have a few Oscars under your belt.
