Reform needed for taxes, not health care

The federal government is at it again, and I do not think anyone is too surprised. H.R. 3200 is a bill that is supposed to "provide affordable, quality health care for all Americans and reduce the growth in health care spending, and for other purposes." I know this is supposed to be great because it insures the uninsured, but at what cost?

The national health care plan is not quite what it is being sold to the public as. First off, it's not free. You are in the wrong universe to receive anything totally free. It's not going to be the government that pays the bills either. As Congressman Ron Paul said, "There is no such thing as cost to the government, there is only cost to the people." I know healthcare is not cheap these days unless it's through your employer, but how do you think this bill will be funded? The taxpayer.

Do people who want this healthcare actually believe it will be anything like what we have now through private institutions? Look at anything the government has a hand in and tell me you feel confident in its ability to be efficient. For example, the runaway spending as a result of these unconstitutional wars, billions given away as a result of our foreign policies and nation building strategies, almost a trillion in bailouts and now we want to fund healthcare? After all of these classic government mishandlings some people now want the government to interfere with their health?

Aside from funding issues, America's Affordable Health Choices Act of 2009 states that it will "enable electronic funds transfers, in order to allow automated reconciliation with related health care payment and remittance advice." What is wrong with this? As previously mentioned, how much do you want the government to know about your private business? The only people I want to have access to my accounts are those I allow, which does not include government officials. Whoever can control your money can control you.

One of my personal favorite sections of the proposed healthcare bill is Sec. 59B. This section taxes individuals without acceptable health care coverage equal to 2.5 percent of the taxpayer's adjusted gross income for the taxable year over the amount of gross income specified in section 6012. Healthcare is taxed if you do not meet the government standards? Where is the freedom in that? Forced healthcare or tax penalties for not having healthcare does not seem like a free country with choices but a country where the government rules by intimidation and force.
