Student earns Employee of the Year Award

David Sharer, a senior computer science major from Fulton, Ill., was named Student Employee of the Year at the end of the Spring 2009 semester at Western Illinois University.
Sharer, a student worker in Western's Center for Best Practices in Early Childhood, used the expertise developed in his major to design, develop, maintain and revise websites that allow the department to educate and communicate effectively. His nominators credited Sharer's responsiveness and timeliness in his work projects. He received a certificate and a $750 award from the WIU Office of Financial Aid.
Elizabeth Coplan, a sophomore special education major from Macomb, was named a second place winner for Student Employee of the Year. A student worker for University Libraries, Coplan created graphs and charts and prepared PowerPoint presentations for Library Dean Phyllis Self. Her accuracy for detail always meets or exceeds expectations, according to Coplan's nominators. She received a certificate and a $500 award from the Office of Financial Aid.
Justin Dikeman, a senior agriculture major from Elmwood, Ill., received the third place winner for Student Employee of the Year. As a faculty assistant in the agriculture department, Dikeman worked as the department's student recruitment coordinator. According to his nominators, "Justin was successful in his personal mission to increase the number of majors in the department." He received a $250 award from the Office of Financial Aid.
Andrew Baker, agriculture professor, was named the 2009 WIU Student Employee Supervisor of the Year. Baker was nominated by his student employee, Michelle Milstead, a senior agriculture/ag business major from Lewistown, Ill. In her nomination, Milstead wrote, "His guidance, support and caring character have helped me excel as a student employee and will help in me in a future successful career."
The Supervisor of the Year award was announced at a luncheon sponsored by the Vice President for Student Services.
Baker received an award certificate and a gift certificate donated by the WIU Bookstore.- University Relations

David Sharer was really intelligent person and work really hard to achieve this position.
