Western Illinois senior Neil Lesinski and junior Stephanie Baumer were recognized by The Summit League after sweeping the player of the week awards for Western after guiding the tennis teams to a combined four victories over the previous week.

Lesinski collected the Men's Player of Week award after a straight-set singles win and a doubles victory over SIU-Edwardsville. In his singles match, Lesinski rolled to a 6-0, 6-1, victory over SIUE's Cole Garrison at the No. 3 position for his fifth consecutive win and 10th win of the season.

The Grayslake, Ill., native paired with fellow senior Sean Ragee-Nelson at No. 1 doubles and scored an 8-6 win over SIUE's Paulo Gonzalez and Mike Chamberlain.

For Lesinski, the award is the fourth of his career and first this season. The senior picked up player of the week honors once in his junior season (2007-08) and twice during his sophomore campaign (2006-07). He is the second Leatherneck to win the weekly league award this season, following Ragee-Nelson, who has won twice, on Feb. 10 and April 7.

Baumer earned the Women's Player of the Week award after going a combined 4-0 during The Summit League Cluster in Macomb. Of her seven sets played, Baumer won five without allowing a game and yielded just five total games to her opponents over the weekend. The Troy, Ill., native collected three straight-set victories at No. 4 over ORU's Ana Costa, 6-0, 7-6 (3), Centenary's Arielle Schuman, 6-0, 6-0, and Oakland's Caitlin Young, 6-3, 6-0, and held a 6-0 advantage on South Dakota State's Nellie Bloomberg.

In doubles play, Baumer teamed with fellow junior Yana Meinert at No. 3 for an 8-2 triumph over SDSU's Megan McDougall and Bethany Goeden. She extended her singles win streak to four and improved her overall record to 21-12.

The player of the week award is the first in the career for Baumer who helped the Westerwinds clinch their third straight Summit League championship. Baumer follows senior Zi Wang and junior Amanda Griffin as player of the week honorees this season.

Leinski, Baumer and the rest of the men's and women's tennis teams return to action this weekend in the Summit League championship, April 24-25, at the Dr. Rudy and Rhonda Kachmann Tennis Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.
