The Westerwinds faced NDSU in a battle for first place in The Summit League and took two of three games from the Bison, giving them the top spot in the conference.

Game 1

The 'Winds (21-16, 12-2 in Summit) fell behind early, going down 1-0 in the first. The 'Winds battled back however, and freshman infielder Jamie Goss came through big for the 'Winds with an RBI double to left. After a pitch hit Lauren Furgala, sophomore catcher Erin Schlotfeldt hit a single to drive in Goss and Furgala, and put the 'Winds up 3-1.

However, the Bison (24-15, 12-3 in Summit) wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring two runs in the fifth to tie the game at three. The 'Winds fought back as well, and in the bottom of the inning another Schlofeldt RBI gave the 'Winds a 4-3 lead.

The offense got it going, but so did the pitching staff. Senior pitcher Kamren Ferguson pitched well and after allowing three runs on five hits for the first five innings, she shut down NDSU in the final two to give the 'Winds the 4-3 victory.

Game 2

Both teams were unable to get any offense going until junior infielder Lauren Furgala hit a double in the fourth to get the 'Winds started. Freshman outfielder Ashley Campbell followed with a double of her own to drive in Furgala, and Schlotfeldt hit an RBI single to score Campbell and give the 'Winds a 2-0 lead.

The 'Winds couldn't hold onto the lead, and the Bison scored four runs in the fifth inning giving them a 4-2 lead, and the win.

Junior pitcher Lori Pankratz started Game 2 and took the loss in 4.1 innings allowing four runs on five hits while striking out five. Campbell came on in relief and finished the game for the 'Winds allowing two hits and striking out two as well.

"Credit to their pitcher for getting us to ground out a lot when we needed to get better hits off of her," said head coach Holly Van Vlymen. "North Dakota State is a great team, and with us both being at the top of the conference, we knew we were going to have great games today."
