In the third ever "Best of Macomb"contest, the Western Courier received many repeat winners from 2008.
This year, ballots were placed in the Courier on both Monday, March 25 and Monday, April 6. Participants were given four different options. Ballots could be dropped off in the University Union and Thompson Hall mailslots, at the Courier office, or via e-mail. Also this year, there was a $25 cash prize drawing.
Rebecca Weaver is the winner and will receive this prize within the coming weeks. Congratulations to this years winner and enjoy the 2009 "Best of Macomb" special issue.
Best Spot for Drink Specials-The Ritz
Drinking on a budget is not easy, but luckily there are bars that can make the process less painful on the wallet.
The Ritz is great for any college student looking to slam a few back, and still have enough money for some food afterwards.
Affordable pitchers and cheap bottles make penny pinching fun.
With nights of free cover, along with Wednesday's dollar drink night, it is easy to see why a couple of drinks are probably one of the more affordable things about Macomb.
The Ritz sticks out in the Western student's mind as a fine establishment for drinking on the cheap, and could very well go down in the annals of Macomb history for its fair prices, and ever changing drink specials that allow anyone to enjoy a night on the Square without the hassle of worrying how they are going to make that next rent payment.
Best Pizza: Aurelio's
On the Western Illinois University campus, pizza is among the top foods ordered on late nights students spend studying for a big test taking place the next morning.
Or, on the days roommates don't feel like cooking, Homecoming parties are being thrown or family weekend is in action, pizza is a no-brainer - Aurelio's pizza, that is.
According to general manager Aaron Ames, the current owner of Aurelio's has been in charge of this highly successful spot for nearly 25 or 26 years.
