Senior ChrisDell Harris highlighted the women's team by placing first in three different events.
Harris placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.12, and took first again in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.69. Harris won her last race with the help of her teammates in the 4x400-meter relay, finishing with a time of 3:53.11.
"ChrisDell had a really solid day," head coach Michael Stevenson said. "I am really happy with her 200 because it is much better than she has been running to this point. We need to get her fully healthy so she can make a regional qualifying mark in the next couple of weeks. Nikki's (Klier) come from way behind finish was the crowd-pleasing event of the day. She ran an outstanding leg to bring Western from about fourth to first."
In the women's field events, sophomore Nicole Manning took first in pole vault with a mark of 3.70 meters. Manning was followed by senior teammate Faith Chew who earned second with a mark of 3.20 meters.
On the men's side, senior Kevin Deegan paced the track team with a first place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:55.08. Freshman teammate Todd Farbiak also grabbed a top-10 finish with a time of 3:58.96.
"Kevin's victory in the 1,500-meter was exciting and a testament to the kind of condition he is in," Stevenson said. "His premiere race is the 800 and for him to run a race out of his preferred distance and win is a good representation of his ability."
Senior jumper Blair Hadnott was the only Leatherneck to win first place in the field events. Hadnott won the men's triple jump with a mark of 14.53 meters. Hadnott also nearly won the long jump, just falling short by less than three inches as he took second with a distance of 7.03 meters.
"Blair had a solid day, but has way bigger jumps in him," Stevenson said. "When he can find the takeoff board consistently, he will jump very far. He is capable of jumping 50 feet."
In the overall team rankings, Eastern Illinois took first in both the men's and women's sides. The Western women fell just short as they finished in second with a total of 181 points. The men finished with a total of 131 points, good enough to place fourth.
"It was a fitting tribute to Lee Calhoun and the Calhoun family for the 20th annual memorial track meet to have such good competition, good weather and outstanding results. Both of the Western Illinois teams fared very well and look to continue to improve over the next few weeks," Stevenson said.
The Western track and field team will travel south to Memphis, Tenn. for their next event, competing in the Memphis Invitational this weekend, April 17-18.
