Dr. Drew to check up on Macomb

VH1's "Celebrity Rehab" producer Dr. Drew Pinsky will enlighten students about establishing healthy relationships in the Western Illinois University Union Grand Ballroom on Tuesday, March 10, in honor of the university's health and wellness theme. The event is sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.

Pinsky is a practicing medical doctor and addiction counselor. He is trained in psychology and certified in addiction medicine.

Pinsky earned his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his master's from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He is the current medical director for the Department of Chemical Dependency Services at Las Encinas Hospital, a treatment facility located in Pasadena, Calif. known for treating

celebrity patients.

He is also employed at Huntington Memorial Hospital and maintains his own private medical practice. Furthermore, he is an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at USC's Keck School of Medicine. Pinsky has been credited numerous times by the Kaiser SHINE (Sexual Health in Entertainment) Awards, Planned Parenthood of America, the PRISM Awards and the Claire Foundation.

Pinsky is extremely dedicated to helping young people make healthy decisions. He spends time lecturing at colleges and universities about addiction, love and relationships.

He has even spoken on Capitol Hill for the National Institute on Drug Abuse and participated with The State of Our Youth at the Carter Center. In addition, he focuses on assisting youth advocate organizations like The Independent Women's Forum, Media Project, Entertainment Industry Council and Hillside Home for Children. Pinsky is also a spokesperson for Musicians Assistant Program.

He was featured on "Celebrity Rehab," and is the counselor on the MTV program, "Sex…with Mom and Dad." In addition, he hosted "Strictly Dr. Drew" on the Discovery Channel, but is best known for his nationally-syndicated radio call-in program "Loveline."
