The Class of 2012 Happy Hour event at the Forum celebrated the success of all the freshmen and transfer students.
The Western Alumni Association held this event to help freshman celebrate their successes in a safe manner and to meet other classmates and local alumni as well. The alumni feel that it is important for them to be a part of the students' lives since they were once students at this school. Because of their knowledge about the school and campus life, they want to be available to talk to students and answer any questions they may have.
"I think this event had a good turnout, but we hoped for more students to participate in it," said sophomore Alumni Association student Carley McGrew. "It seemed like everyone was having fun and socializing with each other. Having an event like this will keep the students busy and safe instead of going out and drinking."
Although the location of the event was at a bar, all drinks, including mocktails and cherry bombs, were non-alcoholic. A variety of food was provided as well. Students were able to participate in many activities, including playing "Rock Band," bags, dancing and socializing.
"This event allows freshman and transfer students to get to know one another and mingle," said Jerry Cremer, 1989 Western Illinois University alumnus. "It brings together students from big and small cities all over, and provides them an opportunity learn more about what it is like living in a different kind of community than they lived in. This kind of event shows those future graduates how alumni keep in touch with the students. Since they will one day become alumni, they will get to see what is in store for them."
