The Student Government Association met Tuesday, discussing their sponsored "Best Seat in the House" event, the aftermath of MTV's visit over the past couple of weeks and the recent controversial appointments in the organization.

David Meelie, director of student services for SGA, talked about the "Best Seat in the House," an event SGA organized and will be hosting during this weekend's home football game against Stephen F. Austin State University. Students can win the "best seat," which will be a couch right on the sidelines of the game.

"It's a great promotion," said Meelie. "The winners just get to relax, sit out, and have some Domino's Pizza."

To qualify for the contest students had to take a survey in the University Union that consisted of questions regarding what the student would like to get out of their elected SGA representatives. SGA members were at the Union all day Wednesday and Thursday qualifying people. Two students will win the "Best Seat in the House" and their names will be announced during Saturday's game.

Later in the meeting, the group discussed how they should react to all of the negativity surrounding MTV's "Busted." Some members felt they should address the negative publicity that the Macomb Journal gave in last week's article, "WIU students help jail hit capacity." The article never mentioned MTV, but unfairly showed the students in a negative light.

"How do future students and their family view such a horrendous title, tagging 'WIU students help jail hit capacity,' with the possible bright future they have at Western?" President Rob Dulski read from an official letter that he wanted to send to The Journal on behalf of the SGA. "The truth of the article was that the jail was already more than halfway full going into the weekend. The fact that students got arrested that attend Western and also occupied the jail have no just reason to tax solely Western students with such a title."

The letter was shelved because there were concerns that The Journal was a good outlet for the university and they didn't want to break that tie with an important supporter. But some members of the SGA thought The Journal wasn't as much the problem as the Macomb Police Department. The MPD was approached by MTV and failed to notify the campus of the show's arrival.
