Delicious.com, which serves as a primary means of bookmarking specific Web sites users might enjoy, is one of many additional online applications University Relations are experimenting with. The service, which has recently gained popularity by allowing users to tag, manage and save Web pages from specific source sites, features a unique user involvement through community efforts. This improves the way users can keep track of favored Web sites and share information, as well as discover new Web material.

Although providing information through conventional means of medium such as news, press and television can serve to be beneficial, University Relations specialists claim the power of Web user interaction fosters the greatest student interest and community involvement.

Web sites such as Facebook, Flickr, Twitter and Delicious allow developers to center on core group members, specifically through organization and staff involvement. Information transmitted through such mediums continues to centralize users and provide the Western Illinois community with copious amounts of space for student socialization and peer interaction.
