N.E.R.D. gets and 'A'

Issue date: 8/27/08 Section: The Edge
N.E.R.D is back again with their latest album, "Seeing Sounds." The group brings back the same distinctive sound they have been developing and loaning out to most of the popular music acts of the last few years.
As a group, it is difficult to pigeon hole them into a specific genre. "Seeing Sounds" features rock, hip-hop and R&B styles, blending them and making them a versatile group. The simple fact of the matter is that if you are a N.E.R.D fan, this is a must buy for you.
For veterans, it is more of that same familiar sound that you have come to know and love over the years. For those of you who are new to N.E.R.D, the genre bending ways of the group will leave those with the open mind satisfied.
The second track on the disc, "Everyone Nose," has all the makings of the next song you are going to hear at the club every night at least once whether it is the original version or the remix (which is not featured on the CD but can be found with a little leg work on Google). Seconds after the opening, an infectious beat takes over, leaving you trying to dance in places that you should not be dancing, like in the car while in traffic.
"Yeah You" is a ballad telling a story about an obsessive girl and is a lush blend of jazz, R&B and Motown-esque work that helps tell a tale with flair. "Killjoy" is a throwback that sounds like old school rap from the '80s fused with a modern sensibility that punctuates any song that Pharrell, Chad and Shay work on.
"Seeing Sounds" is more of the same, without a doubt, but when the same is like this, you can't ignore it. The album is great for N.E.R.D fans both new and old.
