New interim chair for english and journalism (7/2/08)

Beginning July 1, Western Illinois University's Department of English and Journalism will see the induction of Joan Livingston-Webber as interim chairperson.
Livingston-Webber, who previously was a professor of English at Western, will replace David Boocker, who accepted University of Nebraska's invitation to act as the dean of the college of arts and sciences.
Livingston-Webber has taught across the Midwest, from Purdue University at Indianapolis to the University of North Dakota, and she has shared her talents with thousands of students and hundreds of fellow teachers.
She received her Ph.D. from Indiana University in 1992 and earned masters degree while attending University of North Dakota.
Livingston-Webber who came to Western 20 years ago, is on the department's curriculum review committee. Since 2003, she has served on many departmental personnel committee and was a member of the University's Faculty Senate.
In 2000, Livingston-Webber was awarded the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Teacher Award. She was also recognized in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2002 and 2005.
"Dr. Livingston-Webber has a long history of excellence in teaching and service to the College of Arts and Sciences and Western Illinois University," said College of Arts and Sciences Dean, Inessa Levi. "We were fortunate to have someone of her capabilities to serve as interim chairperson after Dr. Boocker accepted his new position. I am grateful to Dr. Livingston-Webber for her willingness to help the college as we search for a new chairperson in the Department of English and Journalism."
