Editor's Note: This article is a follow-up to "Police arrest two fraternity members for break-in," which ran in the March 21 issue of the WC. Please consider the change of any factual information as a correction.

Brian Goodwin and Phil Milano were relaxing at home in Macomb on the Friday night before students returned from Spring Break. They enjoyed a few Keystone Lights, then decided to play a friendly prank on sorority sisters who lived less than two blocks away. What happened next has been the cause of debate, but the two men say they never intended any type of damage; they only wanted to joke with a group of friends.

"In no way were we ever going to steal anything," said Goodwin, a 24-year-old construction management major. "We had been drinking, but we hadn't been drinking much. It wasn't an alcohol-related decision at all."

Milano, a 20-year-old physical education major, clarified that the men only looked for an unlocked door or open window and intended to rearrange the furniture in the Sigma Sigma Sigma common room as a friendly prank.

"We were never going to go to anyone's personal room - we know that's bad," Milano said. "We have friends there, so we thought it would be funny to ask them when they returned, 'How's your furniture?'

"We never set foot in the house," he added.

The previous article stated that House Director Ali Norton called the police after her bedroom window screen was broken.

Lt. David Burnham of the Macomb Police Department was an officer on the scene March 15, and although the two men were arrested under charges of attempted burglary, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct, Burnham said there was no sign the men had actually attempted to break into the house.

"I did not see any evidence of a bedroom window or screen being broken," he said.

Additional information from the MPD was unavailable due to the status of the investigation.

Goodwin and Milano said if they had known someone was home, they never would have attempted the prank.

I understand what these guys are saying and they're probably being honest, they were probably just wanting to pull a prank, but in today's world that sort of thing can go REALLY wrong and they're totally right in that they didn't think it through very well. (Continued…)

I understand how people are pretty much ripping these guys apart for being "stupid" but anyone who knows them at all knows that they are goofy guys anyways. (Continued…)

I know plenty of "goofy" guys but none of them would even think about breaking into a residence that didn't belong to them even to pull a prank. You can be goofy but still have some sense. (Continued…)
