Letter to the editor
Issue date: 2/29/08 Section: Opinion
I was appalled and disappointed by the behavior of my fellow Western Illinois University students on Saturday, February 24th. I was at the Ritz around seven or so having a couple drinks with friends when about one hundred kids in green shirts on a bar crawl trampled through the door. They immediately demanded drinks from the lone bartender and when she could not serve them as quickly as they would have liked; they began to call her offensive names and throw beer bottles across the bar. They ruined both pool tables by pouring alcohol all over them. A fight broke out between two young men in green and the bouncer ended up getting punched in the face.
And just when help arrived in the form of another bartender, he too got hit in the face by a girl and had to hide in a back closet because the guys on the bar crawl thought he hit her or something else ridiculous. The police were called three times because the Ritz did not have the manpower to get everyone out. Ritz employees had to turn the clean up lights on and shut the music off, so people would leave. It took them over an hour to clean the bar up, so they could reopen the bar for the night.
The reason I write this is to say that I have never encountered a more disrespectful group of people here at Western. I realize that not all the people on the bar crawl were rude but the numerous rowdy ones gave them all a bad name. All I ask is that students respect each other, the bars they like to drink at and especially the bartenders that serve them. Nobody deserves to be called offensive names. And call the bar beforehand if you are going to show up with a hundred plus people, so they can best serve you and all your friends.

So what group was this? Clearly if they all had the same shirts on, they were an organization of some kind. Was it a group of Greeks? Another student organization? Name names!

Well, seeing as I'm the janitor for TC's II/The Ritz, I can add here. It took me four hours the following Monday, as well as several hours on the parts of the employees on duty that night working after hours to clean the place up. (Continued…)

WELLLLLLL in reply to the article the girl who wrote it needs to get her facts right because the ritz was notified at least a week in advance that our bar crawl of 100+ people were going to be there at 7. (Continued…)

This girl is writting this because she did not have as much fun as the people on the bar crawl, clearly she was not cool enough to get the invite therefore ahe should not be wasting everybody's time. (Continued…)

Yep...Sound like a bunch of losers to me. Sounds like some serious alcoholism issues. Raise the drinking age to 25.

Due to thier descision to employ lazy bartenders and cowardly bouncers, the ritz is alone at fault for what happened on the barcrawl on that day. If the bouncers had gone after the true problem, instead of demonstrating their ability to remove helpless females from the bar, then most of the destruction that took place would never have happened. I am appalled and outraged at the attitude of the group. Just because there is only one bartender, it does NOT give you the right to go on a destructive rampage. (Continued…)

These people are probably here on mommy and daddy's dime. They probably have had everything handed to them all of their life and don't know how to live on their own. (Continued…)
