A chill up your spine, goose bumps on your arms and the feeling that someone is watching - are you ready to explore your suspicions and find out what is really causing the clammy coolness on your skin?
Ghost Hunting 101 and 102 are two courses dedicated to educating interested people on what tools are needed as well as what to look and listen for during a ghost hunt.
The courses are offered by Christopher Moon, 34, a paranormal investigator from Colorado. Moon, owner of Haunted Times Magazine and founder of Ghost Hunting University, travels around the United States holding lectures at colleges, bed and breakfasts and haunted locations. Locally, Moon frequently visits The Mason House Inn Bed and Breakfast in Bentonsport, Iowa. The 160-year-old mansion sits on the bank of the Des Moines River and is about an hour and a half drive from Macomb.
The Mason House Inn offers visitors a beautiful view of the river, a unique country village atmosphere and pleasant Midwest hospitality - oh, and it also offers over 20 ghosts.
It was because of this that Moon decided to contact the owners, Joy and Chuck Hanson, and ask to conduct his classes and also explore the period-decorated rooms in search of paranormal activity.
"Chris Moon contacted us in February of 2005 and asked to do an investigation and class here," Joy Hanson said. "He had been contacted by a friend who had stayed here and had some kind of experience. The friend told (Moon) that he really needed to check us out.
"At first we were hesitant to have an investigation because we had already had 'ghost hunters' here and all they could say was 'yeah, you're haunted, deal with it.' But when (Moon) told us he could tell us who was here and why they were here, that sold us. So we set up the first Ghost Hunt University 101 class."
Since May 2005 the Hansons "have had 10 classes total, so far, with two more coming up in November and four scheduled for 2008," Hanson said.
She added she believes strongly that there are ghostly inhabitants in her home.
