This book made me a vegan. The cover of the book "Skinny Bitch" says it all: It's a "no-nonsense tough-love guide for savvy girls' who want to stop eating crap and start looking fabulous." It is a must-have book for every woman who wants to know how her eating habits are affecting her body and what she can do about it.

Written by Rory Freedman, a former Ford Models agent, and Kim Barnouin, a former model with a master's in holistic nutrition, the book aims to teach women to lose their fascinations with fad diets and adopt a vegan lifestyle. The opening chapter, "Give it Up," tells young women to give up all their unhealthy habits such as smoking, sugar, caffeine and drinking. While this may be too forward for some readers, this chapter gives great background on why these products are bad and how they harm your body.

From there, the book's chapters cover which carbs are healthy and which ones to avoid, why "sugar is the devil" and how it affects your body. It then leads into my favorite chapter: "The Dead, Rotting, Decomposing Flesh Diets." Carnivores beware, this chapter will change the way you feel about and look at meat.

It made this meat-eating reviewer turn vegetarian for good. This chapter starts by poking fun at the Atkins diet, which emphasizes meat and cheese. It then discusses the negative effects our bodies suffer from eating meat as well as "the gross, stomach-turning realities of the meat-production industry." This chapter gives direct quotes from farmers who have abused animals, describes the animals' unlivable and nauseating housing quarters, lists the tactics used to inhumanely slaughter the animals and rolls though the thousands of antibiotics they are pumped with so they grow faster. Sounds delicious. Try eating meat after that.

The next chapter speaks of the disasters of eating and drinking dairy products. Many dairy cows' teats are attached to a machine for hours pumping milk, causing them to become infected and to puss. Even with the pasteurizing process much of the bacteria still can't be removed. Now go drink a tall glass of milk, yum!

Finally, the last of the chapters covers eating organic food and using your head when picking and choosing what to eat. If some of these foods may seem impossible to give up, see Chapter 10, "Don't be a Pussy." This chapter explains if you can't go cold turkey, give up one bad habit at a time. In the end, the goal of this book is that you come out a vegan who gives up all animal products, if not at least a vegetarian.

This witty book uses sarcastic humor to get the vegan message across. After reading it I must agree with its authors: "You are what you eat."

I read this book about a month or so ago, and it's done the same thing....and I was a DIE HARD carnivore. It's amazing how easy it was, and how much better I feel. (Continued…)

There is something wrong with the title of the book. It should NOT be classified as a diet book or a "fad" or geared just toward women. It is a nutrition information book and it is for EVERYONE. (Continued…)
