Fracture - When structural engineer Ted Crawford (Anthony Hopkins) finds his wife cheating, he does what any man would do: shoots her in the cheek and easily pleads guilty. Meanwhile, hotshot lawyer Willy Beachum (Ryan Gosling) decides to take on the assumed "quick slam-dunk" case before leaving for his new law firm.
To his surprise, the case becomes a lot more involved than he planned, and all evidence becomes useless due to the carefully planned "perfect murder" by Crawford. With his job and reputation on the line, Beachum takes matters into his own hands, making sure Crawford is found guilty no matter what it takes.
It's always interesting seeing two different generations of A-list actors on-screen together. Gosling, recently noted for his Academy Award-nominated performance in "Half Nelson," carries his own as the lead protagonist; however, it's hard not to be upstaged by Hopkins, an actor known for his subtle brilliance on-screen.
Hopkins has the ability to dominate the screen with a simple grin or stare, letting the audience know exactly what he is thinking or wanting - although he changes his accent more times than I blinked in the last two hours.
Other actors include Billy Burke, Rosamund Pike and Embeth Davidtz, otherwise known as Miss Honey from "Matilda."
The script is a very smartly written by Daniel Pyne (writer, "Sum of all Fears") and Glenn Gers (writer, "Disfigured").
