James Munger, a Western Illinois University student, received an Individual Achievement Award from the Workforce Investment Board Monday night at the Macomb City Council meeting.
Munger is an accounting major and said he participated in Western's Entrepreneurship Program during this past summer.
He said he was "very thankful to have had that opportunity."
The city council discussed a new housing development once again. Kent Heckaman, representing the Sterling Group, again approached the council with his plan for developing new family housing on the east side of Macomb.
There were many questions from the aldermen, and Macomb Mayor Mick Wisslead said there were "a substantial number of (questions) not answered yet."
John Maguire, 4th Ward alderman, took a proactive approach, saying some of the questions "are things we're going to have to answer ourselves."
The questions arose from the proposed development of East Street, which would take place as a result of the housing development and from the tax plan of the houses themselves. According to City Administrator Mike Hays, Macomb will have to look into improvements for East Street.
The city council voted 7-0 to grant itself power to act at the next meeting.
In other news, the council voted 7-0 to adopt and amend the 2006 International Building, Residential, Fire, Mechanical and Property Maintenance codes.
The special event liquor license for the McDonough District Hospital Festival of Trees Gala was approved unanimously.
An ordinance to amend the Macomb Liquor Code will be discussed at the next meeting on Nov. 13 at 5 p.m.
