Family Weekend deadlines approaching

Registration deadlines for Western Illinois University's 2006 Family Weekend, "Let's Make Some Good Ol' Days," scheduled for Friday-Sunday, Nov. 3-5 in Macomb, are approaching fast.

Registration deadline for the Saturday (Nov. 4) 5K Poker Run/Walk is today. The deadline to register for all other Family Weekend events is Friday, Oct. 27. All registration must be completed online at www.uub.wiu.edu/FamilyWeekend.

Registration fees are a flat rate of $35 for adults and $25 for children 10 and younger. Payment includes admission into Family Weekend-sponsored activities and programs, Saturday's 5:30 to 7 p.m. presidential dinner buffet in the University Union Grand Ballroom, Sunday's 9 to 11 a.m. farewell breakfast buffet in the Grand Ballroom and a gift. Family Weekend T-shirts ($10 for S-XL and $12 for 2XL and 3XL) and general admission tickets ($13) to the 1:05 p.m. Fighting Leathernecks vs. Indiana State football game can also be ordered online.

Students and families participating in the Saturday 5K Poker Run/Walk can collect playing cards to build the best poker hand. University Union Bookstore certificates will be awarded to the top 10 poker players and ribbons will be awarded to top runners. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. at the east entrance (Q-lot) of the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center; the run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The first 200 entries online will receive a commemorative gift. Entry deadline is today.

Weekend activities will include movies in the University Union Sandburg Theatre and family fun times with a variety of activities designed for family members of all ages. On Saturday the craft show runs from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the University Union Prairie Lounge, and the featured evening show at 8 p.m. is by the The Evasons, with a mind-blowing performance of their skills in ESP, telepathy, super memory, prediction, telekinesis and levitation.

Western's Student Assistance and Parent Service Center, located on the University Union first floor, will be open from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday to provide answers to students and parents' questions about the university.
