After Western has had possession of the trust for 20 years, it will revert back to the Teeter family and support higher education for descendants. In the case that no descendants of the family wish to attain a higher education or there are no descendants left, the trust will be reverted back to Western.
Brad Bainter, director of planned and major gifts, has been very instrumental in ensuring the donation from the Teeters according to Goldfarb. As well as the Teeters visiting Western, Bainter has flown to their home, just outside of Memphis several times.
"We've been talking with the Teeters for a number of years, but things didn't get finalized until a few weeks ago," Goldfarb said.
After serving in the military, Norm Teeter graduated from Western in 1967 with a bachelor's degree in psychology. Both he and Carmelita were granted an Honorary Doctorate degree from Western in the spring of 2006.
"We are glad to do this, we are happy about this. We enjoy our affiliation with the university," Norm Teeter said.
