On Tuesday at 8:27 p.m., the Office of Public Safety was called to what many students are referring to as an exorcism in the 12th floor lounge of Henninger Hall.

According to University Relations, during a religious gathering, a young man was causing a disturbance in the lounge. The head staff received several complaints about loud noises coming from the lounge. A pastor was there and was attempting to comfort him and give the student aid but could not calm him.

"The pastor reported that the student had been taken over by a spiritual demon," stated a University Relations representative.

The pastor arranged for the student to be taken to a church and stated that the student had a "spiritual overdose." Western Illinois University's EMS was called to the scene in order to insure the student's as well as the other residents' safety.

Dan Harris, senior English major, was working the front desk of Henninger at the time of the incident. Harris stated that "(the student's) roommate was carrying him out of the elevator on his shoulder … the kid was shaking compulsively … it looked like he was having a seizure."

The official OPS report states there was no exorcism performed during the incident. Despite this, many students believe something otherworldly took place. The noise coming from the lounge alarmed not only students on the 12th floor but also residents on the 11th and 13th floors.

"I had between three and five students and even some RAs ask me what was going on," said Harris. "I was an RA for two years and nothing freaked me out like this did."

Residents living in Henninger were either reluctant to give specific details about the happening or only knew what took place through secondhand information. No arrests were made and no judicial referrals were filed. Michelle Cohenour, the hall director for Henninger and Bayliss, as well as the three assistant complex directors were unavailable for comment.

Just goes to show you we don't understand everything and some thing just can't be measured thru the physical. We war against things that are not of the physical realm. (Continued…)

While we may not understand everything, this isn't exactly a stellar example. A kid throws a fit during a religious gathering and he's possessed. Doubtful. (Continued…)

Now would be a good time for the Western IL College Administration to issue a statement. Exorcisms--in college, at a college??? Get real. The students deserve an explanation, as does the rest of the world. (Continued…)

The Greatest trick the Devil ever did, was convincing the world that he doesn't exist.
