While it is only Dec. 2, the Christmas season is already in full swing. Stores, in particular, embrace this profitable month and repeatedly play holiday music to get customers in the spirit of giving (and buying). Traditional Christmas songs could benefit from a little bit of unpredictability though. Many of these numbers would be much more entertaining if other bands covered them.
Aerosmith would be the obvious choice to craft a rock rendition of "White Christmas." The group's hit, "Dream On,' would gracefully complement this classic. With green and red hues coloring his plethora of scarves on his mike stand, Stephen Tyler could wail, "I'm dreaming of a white Christmas … DREAM ON! DREAM ON! DREAM ON!"
Similarly, Weezer could deliver an inspired version of "The Holly And The Ivy." Not only has singer/guitarist Rivers Cuomo perfected the Buddy Holly look with his dark hair and black-rimmed glasses, but the band even has a track called "Buddy Holly" that references the late icon. Moreover, Cuomo attended Harvard University, an "Ivy" League school. Coincidence?
The Rolling Stones would be the best fit for "What Child Is This?" Vocalist Mick Jagger has had to answer a similar question, "Whose child is this?" before, so this song should not be much of a stretch for him.
If these bands revamped a few Christmas classics, it really would be the most wonderful time of the year.
