Olamide Adeyooye was last seen on Thursday.

Police in Normal said Monday that they do not yet suspect foul play in last week's disappearance of a 21-year-old Illinois State University student from west suburban Berkeley, but her close friends fear otherwise.

Olamide Adeyooye - "Ola" to her friends - is a good student, completing her studies for a degree in laboratory sciences. Until this weekend, she reliably showed up for her shifts at a Ruby Tuesday restaurant, her friends said.

When police opened the locked door to her off-campus apartment Saturday, they discovered that the television, the lights and a fan were on; the video she had rented Thursday evening was in the VCR; there was food in the microwave and her cell phone was on the couch.

Adeyooye, a comforter and her car - a four-door, green, 1996 Toyota Corolla, were gone.

Friends suspect that Adeyooye may have gone to a nearby laundromat late Thursday to wash the comforter and ran into trouble there.

"Knowing Ola, we can't see how she would (run away). She's a really good person. She wouldn't do something like that," said her friend Laura Braun, 19, of Norridge. "We can't help but suspect there might have been foul play."

Friends have papered the campus and Internet Web sites with fliers about Adeyooye. Normal police also have a flier, and Illinois State University is assisting with the hunt.

Jay Groves, ISU assistant to the president, said he could not remember the last time a student disappeared from campus under such circumstances.

"The police are treating it seriously, and so are we," Groves said

Adeyooye's disappearance has troubled many people in the college community in central Illinois.

The last time anyone spoke with Adeyooye was Thursday night when she chatted on her cell phone with a friend and with her boyfriend, who was out of state, friends said.

When her cell phone was found in her Market Street apartment, it had 65 missed calls.

The last connected call was made at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, friends said.

Adeyooye did not return home to Berkeley.

Her family traveled to the university Saturday to file a missing person report with police.

Adeyooye's parents and brother are staying in housing provided by the university, Groves said.

Normal police are trying to determine what happened. The flier the police department is circulating includes photographs of Adeyooye, the license plate of her car - LBG 927 - and phone numbers for the public to call.

Detective Sgt. Scott Johnson is handling the case. He can be reached at 309/454-9535.
