You're at the Metro in Chicago, patiently waiting for your favorite band to appear onstage. You drove four hours to see it live, and know it will be a wonderful show. You excitedly tell your best friend that you hope they play your favorite song.

For 15 minutes, you wait patiently while the instruments are tuned, lights are checked and microphones are plugged in. Suddenly, the music playing in the background stops and the lights turn off. Everyone is cheering madly. You look around and everyone is just as excited as you are. It's a great feeling isn't it?

Sure it is. You and hundreds of others are supporting the music that your favorite band makes ... right? The most obvious reason to attend a concert is to support a band and its music. Sadly, this was not the case for three lovely ladies from Bradley University.

For those of you who are unaware, Fall Out Boy is a pop-punk band from the Chicago area. They are amazingly talented and deserve every ounce of recognition they have received. Fall Out Boy has come such a long way with its music, and that fact puts butterflies in my stomach. This feeling quickly changed last weekend at the Canopy Club near University of Illinois when I heard a squeaky voice scream, "Oh my gosh! Look at the singer - he's so cute!" which made me rather nauseous.

This girl, along with her two friends, were wearing stilettos and mini skirts and standing mid-mosh pit at a Fall Out Boy concert, drooling over the singer, Patrick, and what they thought was a "guitarist," Pete (who, in fact, was playing a bass).

These three girls did not know any words to any songs. I don't think they even knew who the band was because they kept talking about the "Fall Out Boys."

It's girls like these who give the rest of us a bad name. Obviously, these three didn't pay $13 to listen to Fall Out Boy's music, they paid to salivate over "pretty faces."

Back in December, I saw Fall Out Boy in Chicago and experienced a similar situation. While trying to enjoy the band, a girl in front of me yelled, "Oh my gosh! Pete just sweat on me! I think he winked at me!" At least this girl knew what a bass was.

But seriously, have we not grown out of the Backstreet Boys and 'NSYNC phase, ladies?

If you're going to spend money on a concert, please do it for the right reason. Bands love knowing the audience appreciates what they are doing up on stage. They want to be known for their music, not their attractiveness. It's revolting knowing that girls are swooning over guys merely because they are famous. So thank you to the ladies who know the band names as well as their songs. Thanks to you for making the others look ditzy and immature. Thanks to you, ladies, who go for the right reason: for the music.
