The proposed International House, located at 800 Westbrook Circle, will cost $375,000 and will provide additional housing options for undergraduate international students.

The Western Illinois University Board of Trustees authorized the university to purchase the 9,420-square-foot house in a teleconference meeting that was held on March 17.

According to University Relations, the house, formerly owned by the Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, has enough space for 32 occupants. The house features two-person bedrooms, six bathrooms, library, computer facilities, large kitchen and spacious common areas. The property is accessible according to ADA standards and is fully "sprinkled" for fire protection. The house would be staffed by graduate assistants.

The house, built in 1994, will provide a unique experience for students who want 12-month housing where they can prepare their own meals.

Western currently awaits approval from the Illinois Board of Higher Education to go forward with the purchasing of the house. The next IBHE meeting is scheduled for April 15.
