Mr. Bartl's contention that Deion Sanders should not make a comeback is preposterous. Deion signed with the Ravens and coach Brian Billick wouldn't let him anywhere near his team if he didn't think he could play, he simply cares too much about winning. Billick's not asking him to shut down TO, Moss, or Harrison, he's asking Deion to be a nickle back, and cover a team's third receiver.
Deion won't cover 24 year old kids with 4.2 speed, nor will he cover TO, Moss, or Harrison. He still runs a 4.38 himself and that's still fast. His retirement three years ago was due to health, with three years of rest, he's healthy and hungry. If not, Billick will cut him and say, "Deion go home, you're not making us better."
He's replacing Dale Carter who's out for the season, Dale Carter, a 34 year old corner, who's best years are behind him and his best years don't compare to average Deion years. Deion was the greatest cover corner of all time, he'll still be a good NFL corner back. The NFL is a "win now" league, and for a team with Super Bowl aspirations, this may be the answer.
This isn't diluting the game, because if there was a solid player in place, there wouldn't be a need for Deion, there'd be no interest, not for him, for Jordan, for Sandberg, for Foreman. Deion left due to injury, and now healthy he wants a chance at a championship, on a team that needs him, the question isn't why, it's: Why not?"
