Women's soccer hosts Northern Iowa in first regular season match
The Western Illinois University women's soccer team will open its regular season Friday against the Northern Iowa Panthers at MacKenzie Alumni Field at 4 p.m.
Western defeated Illinois Central Friday in its first exhibition match 10-0. Freshman Robyn Ruypers led Western with four goals. Freshman Kelly Warner followed with three goals and an assist, while freshman Bess Rapp added three assists.
In its second exhibition match, Western scored a 9-0 victory over St. Ambrose. Rapp collected three goals and an assist, while Ruypers, Warner and senior Nicole Trendler each added two goals.
Coach Richard Moller returns 10 letterwinners from last season's squad that went 2-16-1. Western also welcomed 16 newcomers (13 freshmen, 3 transfers). Western fell to Northern Iowa last season 2-0 in Cedar Falls, Ia.
