Brandon Leindl, junior graphic communications major, spoke to SGA as a representative from Together Everyone Achieves Mentoring, Leadership Empowerment and Development. He said the group is planning an "incredible" Fall Leadership Conference for next semester.
"It's so awesome. We're so pumped," Leindl said.
The FLC is an annual event for students wishing to become leaders on campus or in careers. According to Leindl, the theme of the conference next year is "the leader in the mirror."
"One of the biggest things is that we're having Eric Saperston come to speak," Leindl said.
According to Leindl, Saperston is an excellent person to speak at Western Illinois University because he traveled across the country to speak to the nation's leaders, including Jimmy Carter and Grateful Dead's Jerry Garcia.
"He basically is going to tell us about the journey he went on," Leindl said. "He went through so many trials just to speak to these people."
He added that the conference will be on a Saturday in the fall and includes several universities. The day will include group sessions as well as Saperston's keynote speech.
"I challenge you to go back to your organizations and tell them about this event," Leindl told the group.
Jamie Christianson, SGA president, said Garry Johnson, vice president of student services, is in support of the group's decision to adopt the Macomb Town Square.
By adopting the Square, SGA will be responsible for its cleaning and upkeep.
Jessica Singh, SGA vice president, said most of the cabinet positions for SGA were filled, but the group still needs a comptroller and chamber of commerce representative.
She also spoke about a "Dive-in Movie" she planned to hold at the Student Recreation Center pool.
She asked which senators planned on attending, and said she was disappointed at the lack of participation.
"That's totally unacceptable. I kind of think that is horrible," Singh said. "You don't have to swim. You could just, like, chill."
John Walcher, speaker of the senate, said he hopes to start forming committees and getting to know senators better.
