“All I can say is that I apologize. In the past, special acquisitions were made to cover it,” Campos said.
“What’s done is done. The money isn’t necessarily needed today. It’s a fuzzy rule,” said Interfraternity Council Senator Tony Marshal.
“We’re way out of line here. We shouldn’t be feeding ourselves on student money,” said Senator at-Large Jim Scott.
Leathers said she would pay for the reception out of her own pocket, if needed. However, Mullins-Silverstein said that he plans to approve $99 expenditure for the reception and the difference was received in donations.
The reception had a relatively low attendance, but some senators who voted against the appropriation were in attendance.
“I did not vote for it because I wanted to encourage responsibility,” said Student Tenant Union Senator Kajsa Okmark, citing a need for an SGA fiscal agent.
“If we don’t eat it, it will go to waste,” said STU Senator Nicole Peterson.
Also at the meeting, the senate approved an appropriation of $300 to pay for care packages to go to soldiers participating in Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of a Thompson Hall program.
According to Campos, FSP was told that the program was to be held today, meaning that the money was needed less than a week before the appropriation was submitted to FSP.
However, Thompson Hall Assistant Complex Director Becky Loney said items for the care packages would not be bought until next week.
