Maintaining the beauty of the WIU campus is an ongoing task, and this month sections of Sherman Hall will take its turn to receive a makeover.
The WIU Physical Plant's in-house construction crew will continue the renovations that began last summer in the second-floor west wing of Sherman Hall.
Many areas of the floor will benefit from the crew's labors, including the Office of Administrative Computing and Business Services, the Payroll, Purchasing and Accounting Office and several individual offices in the area.
The existing vinyl and walnut paneling, which is common through a vast portion of the area, will be treated to a fresh coat of paint while the fabric wall coverings will be replaced with drywall.
The Administrative Computing Office has already had its old, burnt-orange carpeting replaced with new floor coverings during winter break.
"It is time for the area to have a few repairs. It has not been renovated in quite some time and many wall and floor coverings have outlived their years. It is mainly just some routine maintenance to fix minor problems," Physical Plant Project Coordinator Ted Renner said.
The project was designed by the Physical Plant's Planning, Design and Capital Construction unit and should be completed by mid- to late January.
The renovations in Sherman Hall were not affected by the recent cut to WIU's state funds because the money used to complete the project had been allocated prior to the notification of the cut in finances.
"There is a certain amount of money the university designates for internal repairs and the Sherman Hall project was chosen to receive a few renovations with a portion of the fund," Renner added.
