Western Idol Worship
Amidst the basketball, bean bags and free nachos at the Union Block Party behind the University Union Wednesday, musically ambitious students hopped on stage to sing karaoke songs to those in attendance.
No, there weren't a bunch of drunken Japanese businessmen singing Meat Loaf's "I Would Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That).…

University Theatre Year in Review 2003-2004
This semester's main-stage theatre fare gave audiences three strong‚ distinct styles to choose from - the dark and heavy character-driven "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest," a surreal comedy in "Fuddy Meers," and the grand spectacle of "Titanic."
According to theatre associate professor and "Fuddy Meers" director Bill Kincaid, "Meers" contrasted "Cuckoo's Nest" and "Titanic" because‚ even though "Cuckoo's Nest" has some funny moments‚ it's a heavy play.…

Cat In the HatDVD REVIEW
Grade: Q
Editor's note: Our newest reporter was locked in a room for 24 hours with only a bottle of water, four celery stalks, and "The Cat in the Hat" DVD. This is what he wrote.
The progressive televisions noisily sacrificed one bourgeois poison. Umpteen slightly angst-ridden pawnbrokers ran away.…

Eric ClaptonALBUM REVIEW
"Me and Mr. Johnson" Grade: A- Although he gets lumped into the rock and pop bins at record stores‚ Eric Clapton has always been a bluesman at heart. Just when his star began to rise as lead guitarist for the Yardbirds in the mid-1960s‚ Clapton quit the group‚ deeming its hit "For Your Love" just too darned commercial for him to play on a nightly basis.…

The Living EndALBUM REVIEW
"Modern ARTillery"
Grade: A
The Living End is the most talented punk band on the planet. It isn't the most popular. It isn't the most-well known. But the Australian natives are creating music with a depth and intensity that their American counterparts would be lucky to mimic‚ let alone refine.…

Van HuntALBUM REVIEW
"Van Hunt"
Grade: C
It's been a while since a male singer has emerged as an indisputable phenom in the area of soul music. Although one can hear influences of Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield in his high‚ sweet voice‚ rhythm and blues performer Van Hunt is far from earning such distinction.…

Modest MouseALBUM REVIEW
"Good News For People Who Love Bad News" Grade: B- For all intents and purposes‚ Modest Mouse should be good news for people who love bad news. The carefully off-key vocals of lead singer and guitarist Isaac Brock seem like they should grate the nerves of the calmest of listeners.…
